Secure Socket Layer (SSL)

SSL is part of TLS (Transport Layer Security), SSL means Secure Socket Layer. SSL uses crytographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data. SSL is a connection between client and the server. It was developed by Netscape to ensure the privavy will transfering documents via the internet. Netscape and internet Explorer support SSl and many other websites use SSL to help protect the privacy of important documents or things like credit card mumbers. There are ways of knowing if you are visiting a secure website, one is the address will be https instead of just http, also there may be a padlock to signal that SSL is being used. I think this is all very important.

Mozy

I really liked the Mozy website. I thought it was very organized. Most of the information was easy to find which makes a website very understandable. Mozy offers Home, Work, and Executive packages. MozyHome has a free version worth 2GB of memory. The draw back is with the free version there is very limited assistance from Mozy representatives. The next step up from the free version is a package worth 50GB for $5.99. With the upgrade there are some perks. For example a user is given one month free with a purchase of a one year plan. I think Mozy would be worth the money. For more information please visit www.mozy.com.

Laptop Rollup

I really liked the roll up laptop. I thought it was a great idea. It would be very conveinent for me becasue its not big and doesn’t take  a lot of space. I liked how everything is so compact and in one place. I think this is a great idea for students. I wish I could get one of these. I also found on Gizmo that they offer differnent colors.

Angry Birds take flight

I’m sure you have heard of Angry Birds, who hasn’t? Well know Angry Bird are really flying high.

This is a bit of an article that came from Coolest Gadgets. “It seems that Rovio has hit the motherlode with the Angry Birds franchise, and something tells me that it will be a very, very long time before Rovio is able to replicate the success of Angry Birds with a new franchise down the road. Their greatest blessing could very well be their Achilles’ heel as well, since nothing else that they make or manufacture might be able to measure up to the might of Angry Birds.”

This looks really fun, but I think I will stick to my phone so nothing gets broken.

Facebook/Twitter News

More and more people are using social media tools everyday. Amy Mitchell & Tom Rosenstiel of PEJ, and Leah Christian of the Pew Research Center discuss how much Facebook and Twitter are used in their article “What Facebook and Twitter Means for News.”  These authors quote ” social media are additional paths to news, not replacements for more traditional one.” Basically these authors think that social media tools like Facebook and Twitter are getting much higher publicity then what is actually happening. The author’s reasononing is that users still have to go the main website for the news to gain more information.

Mid-Term Presentation Notes

Wix

I had no clue that there was a place to generate a free website and it be so easy. I really liked the software because it seemed so easy to use. Wix would be usefull to others because its free and easy. I think that if I needed to make a website I would use Wix.

Historical Facebook

I learned that there was a historical Facebook. I thought that the layout really does look old compared to the present Facebook. I think this site would be helpful to others when doing a report on a person, you could use the historical Facebook page as a visual.

Animoto

I had never heard of Animoto before this presentation. I thought it was a great way to keep audience’s attention. I would use this for a quick presentation. I would use this but the downfall is that it only last 30 seconds for the free trail.

Survery Generator

I learned that there were a couple of different websites that can generate surveys. I thought this was a great idea. This site could be useful to otheres because its a great way of asking questions and receiving anwers. I would use this site.

TRAK

I have enjoyed working with my group on this service learning project.  I think that we have done a great job. I think that Staci will be able to use some of our ideas to gain interest in her program.

I think it is great that so many people care about these children. TRAK is a great program, and I am glad I had the chance to help.
