The Media Technologies program at Pellissippi State, housed in the Bagwell Center for Media & Art, encompasses related career-technical disciplines in four concentrations: Communication Graphics Technology, Photography, Video Production Technology, and Web Technology. Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in a cross-disciplinary environment that reflects what is occurring in industry, on state-of the-art equipment, from instructors with professional experience. The flexible curriculum allows students to design a custom curriculum and earn professional “up-training” certificates for advancement in career niches.”

Media Technology Programs

The Communication Graphics concentration (CGT) educates students in the art of visual communications. Students receive hands-on training in visual fundamentals, problem solving, and visual/verbal concept development. Emphasis is placed on the use of computer-enhanced technology and contemporary software applications throughout the program to support the development of professional portfolios. The program prepares graduates for employment in design consulting firms, advertising agencies, in-house design agencies, electronic prepress service bureaus, media outlets & printing companies, web page design & development firms, and freelance practice.

The Photography Program at Pelissippi State is designed to give students a balanced, practical foundation for entering the profession in the digital age. All of the facilities are digital, with industry-standard tools like Photoshop®, Bridge®, Lightroom® and Photo Mechanic® incorporated into the course material. Our instructors include many working professionals who can give first-hand insight into the photography field.

Video Production Technology at Pellissippi State equips students for a career in digital storytellling. Students learn techniques in all phases of production from script writing, and budgeting to shooting and editing. The VPT curriculum offers a well-rounded introduction to TV and film production with the ability to concentrate in specialized areas such as shooting, editing, motion graphics, 3D design and audio production.

The Web Technology concentration offers hands-on experience in designing web pages and developing web sites. Students develop and maintain Web sites using authoring and scripting languages, create content and digital media, manage and deploy e-business solutions servers, manage Web servers and maintain Web sites. The concentration can be delivered completely over the Internet with many courses taught in the classroom as well, enabling students to choose the course delivery method best suited to their learning styles.
