FINALLLLLL BLOGGG….

As I think back on this semester, this class has been amazing. Things that I never knew, I learned. Things that I wouldn’t even know how to find, Dr. Brown shared. He takes such pride in himself and his teaching. I have truly enjoyed his class and how he gave so much of himself to teach things that could help us in our future, and in such a short amount of time. Very caring and intellegent; one of my favorite professors.

We started the semester coming to grips with who we are and what we will be doing in the semester. We introduces ourselves on our blog and talked about the things that we like and the websites that we like to visit. The Internet is a series of tubes. The next week, we learned about Binary. A series of ones and zeros. Everything is translated into numbers and is stored as numbers and can be used as 0′s and 1′s. We can use switches because of this. Open means one thing and closed means another.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don’t.

Next, we learned how to build a computer. Dr. Brown allowed us to look inside a broken down computer and see/feel what the inside looks like. He informed us on many tutorials to guide us on building a computer. The components we need and we decided which ones we wanted/customized it ourselves. We did this through a blog, explaining how to build our computer. After that, we  learned how to use ALS and understand it. I have also learned a lot about software. I have learned that, second programming language generation assembly languages uses abbreviations to represent binary sequences. Also learned that assemblers convert from assembly languages to machine code.

This semester we also discussed HTML and SQL. I love HTML ever since high school. I am learning, even now, how to create my own websites. In class, we created our own website and uploaded it. It was really neat and refreshed my memory of many html codes. SQL is a type of database. It is a way of using insert, update, delete, and select to locate information within the database by using data manipulation. After html, we played around with Scratch and had to create our own project. I created a dance one, i thought it was pretty neat, but I would to love to go in more detail with Scratch and Alice. They are programs in which you can create animations and tell stories or create games through uploading characters and pictures, and using code that is formatted a certain way. Pretty cool, I thought. After Scratch, we learned computer hacking and played with lego robots. Computer hacking was crazy, because of how easy it is to do. It was interesting when we watched tutorials on how to hack vending machines. With the robots, we learned how to program and build them. We had to make our robot follow a track, and I was excited that mine and my partners worked. Some people didn’t get theres to work. Next, we talked about Artificial Intelligence. It is crazy how games and simulation are bringing technology here. Also, computers can appear intelligent by how they perform.  And they are considered intelligent through the languages that they can read. It is crazy how computers read what they are told and they are considered intelligent, when we are the ones that created them and are telling them what to do, but they can be smarter..that’s crazy. Last, we learned about virtual reality/worlds. Games are ridiculous when it comes to virtual worlds. I love Halo, that is the game the pulls me into its world.  I think that it is definately a good thing, the way virtual worlds take hold. Also on the other hand, the addicting part I don’t think is healthy.

Dr. Brown’s class was insightful and very real. You know if your here for computers or not after this class. To me, it excited me even more. I want to apply everything I learned and go deeper into detail. His class makes me want to become more knowledgeable in area I never even thought about. I loved this class, and I hope future students gain what I have from it.

VIRTUAL worlds And games

I have enjoyed my experiences with virtual world games. Most every game that I play has a virtual world. My favorite is Halo. I love exporing the land and how in depth and real it can be. It is capturing and addicting. I think that it is definately a good thing, the way virtual worlds take hold. Also on the other hand, the addicting part I don’t think is healthy. Even though I understand the buying and selling of land, like on World of WarCraft, I don’t agree with it. I think that is just doing too much. I don’t like that people let it take over there lives. And I also don’t like how people can make millions from it, when in reality, everyday people like me work hard to make a living. So, I guess I am saying that virtual world is not my world, but I do enjoy it, but will not let it run my life as others do.

A.I. and stuff .. (like !ROBOTS!)

This past week was neat still learning and trying to program our robots. When the class tried to follow the directions..it failed. Things aren’t as easy as they seem. But perserverance will pay off, that’s why I love being in this field. There will be an answer, but you have to push and figure it out. And there are endless ways to make and create anything. Robots, were really fun learning and I appreciated Dr. Brown taking the time (even though there wasn’t much) to show us Robots in detail. Artificial Intelligence is really cool while learning.

= ] Experiences this week and thinking about robots = ]

When I think about this past week so far, I get excited. Robots are really cool. I have learned how much work it can take to really create a robot to do what you want it to do. Even the “simple” things can be challenging. But I love challenges. I think if I ever find the time, I would definately sit down build and program my own robot. I wish there was more time less stress, so that I can truly take pride in the things that I love. I love this class and even though there isn’t a whole lot of time, Dr. Brown does a fantastic job showing us all that he can. He is very inspiring as a teacher. The videos that he has found are really interesting, some kinda scary, but I like being able to know what is going on in the world. But back to this robots. As the week progresses, I learn something new every class and it really isn’t as easy as people may think. As I try to get my robot to move the way I want it to, I have to be carful where I place the sensors if I use them. I think its neat that I can make it talk as well as move where I want it too. I wish we had more time to dig deep into it, but it just inspires me for the future to go after it. Maybe a Xmas present.

:Computer hacking, Viruses, other Security-Related Issues n such:

It is crazy to see how easy it is to hack a computer or anything that has software. As I watched the videos in class and listened to the lecture, I saw that anyone who has the capabilities can hack; even if your not technically inclined. As I learned from the Sarah Palin incident, it can be as easy as learning someones password. I learned how important it is to stay private on the Internet because you never know what could happen. Hacking can be contain many things. It could be stealing information or passwords by creating another home page, when someone logs in it refreshes so that you receive their password; deleting information; or even sending viruses. Viruses can be extremely harmful. They come in many different forms which can have many different actions. Some can steal information, some can harm a computer, many are self-replicated and can copy onto other applications, and some can even store key stokes. Many types are called: trojan horses, worms, computer viruses, key loggers, spyware, malware, logic bombs, and rootkits. I thought it was interesting when Dr. Brown said that when he wrote a computer virus for his master thesis at UT, how scary it was because it was easy to do. We need to be careful now days. I wish that “hacker” was still considered a positive term like in the past.

:’Randy and Scratch’:

Scratch is what we learned this past week. My first impression of it was, CooL! As I began to explore it it was a little troubling trying to figure out how to do exactly what I wanted to do on it. But overall it is very simple compared to what it could be. It is neat how I can manipulate the system to create a game, animation, just tell a story, or many other things.

Randy Pausch is amazing! I love him. His energy is so powerful uplifting. When I finished watching the video in class where he had his last lecture, I was completely moved. I wrote my own blog on facebook about my feelings, and I will post it below. But it is neat how much he enjoyed his life and wanted to share his happiness with others. He is a very positive person, and has given so much with just his energy. I am truly inspired by his gratefulness and eagerness to share.

Inspiration..

by Brittany Grover on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 1:44pm

 I love being surrounded by positiveness and gaining inspiration. It can be so encouraging but I don’t understand the people that walk the earth and don’t feel anything. I hurt for them because it seems that they will never know what it feels like to be completely happy. I hope and pray they do though. I have just been inspired to be more diligent and have more earnestness. I have dreams, and in order to pursue them I have to gain more of these qualities as well as stay happy and live truthfully. What I have noticed is the key to understanding life, is that everything leads in many directions, and life will carry you in a very unhappy direction if we don’t stand out. Which way I decide to live is up to me. Many people live with their eyes, ears, and mouth closed. Just letting life guide them. We can’t be in control of everything, but we can control our character. I need to breathe…speak, listen, see, and act on my dreams. In order to understand life, if I pick the right path, karma will eventually come smile for me. This is what I believe. And expecting it is not fufilling. Living life to the fullest with no expectations will become rewarding and I won’t be let down. Because if I just focus on me and how hard I can work or how great I can live life, only good things can come of it. Only I will become a better person, only I will see the sun in darkness, and only I will bwe truly happy. How can someone have a bad day if they know that they have tried their hardest and smiled as much as possible. Sharing is also a key to life, because how can we gain something and not share it and make other people inspired and happy. That is where I am now. Someone shared, I am truly inspired. I am sharing now, let me know if I  have inspired you or made you think about being inspired.

I want to put the link below that inspired me this morning for anyone who wants to watch it, it is long so you have to have time but it is worth it in the end.

::HTML part two::

………………

…………………

::Html continued::

So HTML is amazing. It is very interesting seeing what we are learning and the effort it takes to make your page do and look the way that you want it. As I browse through the internet, I notice how much there is to a web page. So many links and images and formats and colors and boxes and styles, etc. It seems like a lot of hard work.

I know it is a ton of work, taking the time to put all the things that you want together. It is major to pay attention to detail and to focus on what is being put together. But, I feel the format is very simple which is a hugh plus. After creating my own web page it has changed my view on how much work it really takes to make sure that specific things are done that I want done.

This week I have also learned about SQL and databases. Databases are very complex; They contain much information. We learned how it is organized so that it is found easier and SQL is one of those ways. It can be very difficult woking with flat files including locating, maintaining, updating, and reusing them. Database management is a system that was created to manage them. One type of database is SQL. This is a way of using insert, update, delete, and select to locate information within the database by using data manipulation. For example, I can say: Select (name: first, last, or type, or phone)

From People, Contact

Where

City = “(place)” And

People.ID = Person_ID;

This can seem very complex, but when you look at the whole picture, it is really so much easier because information can be extremely hard to find in a database unless you have a system like SQL in which you use data manipulation. So, this was very interesting to learn and I enjoyed it.

::HTML by hand::

So, I was excited when I found out that we were going to learn HTML, because I remember it from high school in a class that I took and I always thought about relearning it so that I could use it in the future. I have a huge interest in it, but I haven’t really taken the time to go in depth with it. Now, would be a good time.

This past week has been very interesting and exciting while learning to create a web page. It was refreshing because I had forgotten a lot of techniques that I used to know. I love creating web pages and it was fun remembering how to do it.

First I had to hand code my web page. This was interesting because I had to make sure I understood the format so that when I was ready to type, it was correct. I was refreshed on how to write html and I am glad, because I really enjoy it. I learned how to change the background color. I also learned how to change the width and height of an object. I love that I can create whatever I want, where ever I want it and however I want it to look. Learning hand coding can seem a lot simpler than other coding but it is important to pay attention to the minor details or you could leave something out or even have something show that you didnt want to show, because you didnt close your bracket or something.

Creating web pages is a huge interest of mine that I hope to pursue to show my future businesses as well as others.

I am curious to see how my page will turn out considering that I am relearning. I hope great, but I feel it is going to take some time to remember the things that I am learning and apply them accordingly.

YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY! HTML! YAY!

…..ALS…..

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

……………………………………………………………………

………………………………………

…………………..

…………

…….

This week, I have learned how to use ALS and understand it. I have also learned a lot about software. I have learned that, second programming language generation assembly languages uses abbreviations to represent binary sequences. Also learned that assemblers convert from assembly languages to machine code.
I can visually see how I would construct a model to these things that I have learned.
There are pieces missing. These consist of some of the things that I havent learned yet. As I learn and grow in this field, I am excited to see where my mind will take me. I need to learn how to process my thoughts and ideas, not just have them. How do I create what I want to create? That is my missing piece, but I will find it and create my puzzle.

I hope one day to include what I have learned to create my own codes. I am excited to see what it would be like to create my own computer with my own codes. The videos that we watched in class really inspired me to take emphasis into what excites me, and become determined and not lazy.

I really enjoyed learning about ALS and how to use it. It is neat seeing the process of creating and processing a codes. I have learned what READ, WRITE, STOP, JUMP, LOAD, ADD, SUB, STORE, and VALUE mean. I have also learned how registers, inputs/outputs, Assembly code, Machine code, and Ram work and what is placed into each one.
It can be frustrating at first trying to figure it out, but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty interesting.

I also like how we studied binary last week which we can see our binary code being used in the ALS. The ALS is pretty neat. It is crazy thinking about as I am working on my computer, What is really going on underneath? I love that there is so much unknown, but in the same way..it makes perfect sense. As I type, my computer is communicating. As I click the mouse or even change the way a picture looks, my computer is communicating. It seems so difficult, but after looking at the ALS, it seems so much simpler. I can see how each process happens and why it happens the way it does.

and

*AMD Phenom ll Processor

 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851)

There are many parts that you can choose from to build your own computer. I chose these parts above due to many reasons. I really liked how somethings looked and the price, as well as I enjoyed how good of a rating they received.

The price all together comes to___$14,785___. This varies either less or more compared to what route you take when you build your computer. Some parts may not cost as much as the ones I got, but it could cost more if you want even better. It all differs, but in the end you will have something that you’re proud of.

In this blog I am speaking as if I have already built this, I obviously haven’t but this week excites me to do it. I will definately take into consideration all of the things that I have learned during this process as well as what has been tought.
