Robotics

Robotics is another very interesting topic for discussion. Robotics has been the reason for the loss of many production jobs due to the streamlining of processes, limit of amount of errors, and the speed and precision of which these machines can do these jobs with. But on the other side, robotics literally saves lives as well. Like any technology, it can be used for good or for evil. Bomb units utilize a robot to assist with disarming or diagnosing solutions for many types of bombs. Space exploration wouldn’t be possible if not for robots, at least we wouldn’t have been able to do or see as much as what we have been able to. The possibilty for robots is endless.. Nanobots that can be injected into your bloodstream to help combat infectious cells of different diseases, that could give updated health information at will, even gps readings for lost soldiers and even pets, the sky is the limit. But with that, where would that lead us. Cybernetics? Androids? Robots taking over? The movie realm has given us all these different visions of how robots will be in our future, in the different possibilities of how they could be, different scenarios.. Hopefully, robots will be able to be safeguarded similar to that in I-Robot. The 3 Laws.. But I love how there was later a 4th Law added. And to believe, some of the best ideas for inventions have started as science fictions books, movies, and tv shows.. Where will it lead??

Gaming and the Social World

I love this topic. If I could be a video programmer, I would. At least a tester, because I love to play some video games. It all started with the original Nintendo. It really went back to Atari and arcades but came full tilt when we purchased a Nintendo. I loved to play some Mario Bros. I’ve played on almost every console that has come into creation, special ordered limited edition of games, even imported Dragonball Z video games for the Playstation. I like playing a lot of 1st person games that emmerse you into their world. You can kind of let go of the stress of reality through a video game. I love playing the Modern Warfares and Halos. With Halo 3 I started my adventure into online play. I started finding myself trying to get on at the same times every night to get together with the crew and either play each other, or team up and take on others. We were bad!! I mean bad as in tear anybody up!!! The friendships that are created through gaming are as real as any relationship that you can start with someone in the physical. Now that the internet has brought about social networking and social media outlets, everyone can essentially be put into contact with just about anyone… That can be a scary thought, especially when thinking in terms of careers, schooling, love, everything’s boundaries just became endless as to how far a search can be made for just the right person, just the right career, just the right opportunity… Off of that Tangent and back to the gaming…. That’s actually about it for that, other than when you put video game into perspective. The perspective being that in our most recent war, drones were flown by soldiers here in the states utilizing similar technology that is found in video games.. In retrospect, that video game literally saved US lives but on the other hand ended the lives of insurgents… It’s all in how you look at it..

Internet Security… Hacking/Viruses

Several thoughts come up with this topic… Antivirus software, trojan horses, zombie computers, time bombs… the list is essentially endless. What does this mean? The world of technology has many different avenues to being used for different purposes, both good and bad. Hacking was originally created to describe someone that was very profficient with being able to get computer software to do things that were not suppose to be “normal” or what the software was programmed to do. Over the years, this talent started to be used to “hack” into government facilities for one to gain different types of information or to wreak a little havoc. Thus came the birth of the viruses, worms, trojan horses, etc… Espionage needed ways to extract information without having to be in front of the computer. These infected computers then became subject to the will of the “hacker”. Information can be easily stolen, vital records can be essentially rewritten, anything and everything could be lost due to some individuals like “black hat hackers”, only using the knowledge for malice… I would like to learn more about creating viruses, worms, etc… I believe that to defeat an enemy you must first understand your enemy.. LOL That’s the samurai in me speaking now, sorry…

An ever changing Internet

Through the adventures of coding, I have come to have a better appreciation for the internet, the programmers, and even the problems that some web pages can and do experience. Once I started learning the intricacies of what goes into creating an outstanding and fully interactive site, I started wanting to learn more about what is out there. I have started using some cutting edge techniques and trying to figure out the next big thing… Which I think I may have found, it’s just coming up with the mathematical formulas for 3 dimensional prisms with varying sizes and translating all that into JavaScript functions that, with a lot of tweaking, should give a rich interactive 3D interface that is the webpage… An entire site contained on a morphing, rotating, 3 dimensional prism that shrinks to show the transform then enlarges to fill most of the screen, and then repeating this process when a new link is pressed to go to yet another page in the site that is on a different panel of this multi-sided prism… My head keeps spinning thinking of the possibilities.. For an example: http://web-students.pstcc.edu/web2700pc1/btward/portolio/web/photographyward/index.html

Best viewed in Chrome and Safari as they are the only browsers that currently support the 3D transforms…

Adventures in HTML Coding

I have really been enjoying my journey into the world of internet coding. I am so into it that I made it my major after Dr. Martha Merrill got me introduced into the program. The coding part of it is sort of mathematical in nature, especially when JavaScript starts getting involved, but everything equates out. You have to have balanced equations or statements in order for your pages to be properly viewed and interacted with. CSS3 is completely outstanding. I have been utilizing the latest 3D Transforms that are only supported on Chrome and Safari at this moment.

Web page building is a very interesting art in that there are actually many different aspects that truly go into a fully effective and fully interactive site. The only problem is staying abreast with everything that is constantly changing. I started coding with HTML4 being the standard and just this year HTML5 has come out with some outstanding qualitites. And CSS, yeah, I started out with CSS2 and CSS3 compliance started earlier this year…

It is a fun and wonderful journey enough to where I wish to continue my education into the higher levels with this chosen field.

The World of Binary Numbers

I had learned a bit about binary numbers 2 semesters ago in the Spring in my Advanced Digital Imaging class with Bruce Cole. We learned how to read the binary code for a given pixel for its given color. This was truly unique to me. I really enjoyed learning how the binary system worked as I am also a mathematician, or atleast I have a mathematical mind.. An ever-calculating mind as I like to deem it! ;)

This week’s section on binary and hexidecimal numbering systems was AWESOME!! The only problem that I had with it, was with the binary quiz.. I left out 2 very important sequences of the binary and came up with a completely different hexadecimal answer, as you have already found out on the quiz.. Once I went back and looked at it, I started kicking myself. I did find out, however, that it is very important to read and re-read the binary code to ensure that proper translation will be had..

Oh, and on another note… I LOVED the videos for this week!!! I even shared one or two on my facebook for everyone to see and got several responses to it as well. The video was the one that just had a lot of number comparisons such as the rate of which babies were born in both America and China. Loving the videos!! The singularity one from last week was AMAZING also. I can’t wait to watch the Phi, Predictions, and the Growing up Online videos..

Introduction

My name is Brandon Ward. I have 3 children, 2 of which are with me currently and the other one is a long story all in it’s own but she is with my parents. I am currently involved in multiple court proceedings, unemployed, and trying to find housing. Needless to say, life is a little rough right now but worth every second of it. I am a Web Technology Major trying to graduate with a dual Associate’s in Computer Programming in May 2012, but due to my new situation I am unsure if I will be able to finish the Computer Programming degree. I am quite savvy with almost every aspect of the computing world and strive to get better and know more every day. Some of the websites that I most often frequent are: www.freelancer.com, you can follow me at http://www.facebook.com/ChefVegeta, and that’s really about it, except for the Pellissippi D2l webpage..
