This class was amazing, it had a slow start at first and I thought it was going to be just another lecture class but after the first couple weeks it took off and has made me more interested in a career in programming than I thought was possible. Scratch was by far my favorite thing of the semester I had so much fun playing with it and still do when I’m bored. The talks about VR and just reality in itself has got me to think about what I always just accepted and is almost to hard to really think about just because I’m beginning to think there is no reality there is just is what we think is real and accept as real but in fact could be a completely different world through the eyes of an animal, insect, or even another human is almost weird. AI was always something that I questioned how it worked and even now I’m not to sure I understand but it is a really cool subject and it makes me wonder how it will be to talk to something like a robot if it will ever be possible, will we accept robots into our lives like that just because we think they know what we are saying? This is something else that makes me think about reality because what they would be thinking isn’t real, is it? This class was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone not just because of the subject but the way it was taught it was a new style to me and I have to say I wish every class was taught in the same way.

AI, not as impressed with it as I thought I would be nothing to special from what I got on Monday just seems to be way to complicated for what it is. It does give me a sense of respect though because all the time when I’m playing my games and a bot just doesn’t realize I’m there and I laugh at it and wonder why the company didn’t do better I suppose it was because they couldn’t. I missed Wednesday though so I didn’t learn a whole lot on the subject from what I can tell it seems almost impossible to have a robot run with AI without no help at all because of everything we would have to tell it. I guess in a way I’m fine with that, the longer I can go without being able to talk to computers after spending all my time around them as it is I would think is a good thing.

I had so much fun over this week I haven’t played with legos in years and I’ve never played with them with motors which was way cooler. On the robotics side of it I love the idea of robots (I’ve even kind of considered checking it out as a career choice) but at the same time there is this level of creepiness if we keep pushing this where does machine end and human begin? TV shows like futurama have bender walking around talking interacting and no one questions it its all normal everyone acts like he is a person, now I know its a cartoon but it makes me wonder if we talk to pets like they are human once we get comfortable with them will we not do the same with robots?

I am having so much fun with Scratch making little cartoons and games was so cool. At the beginning of the semester I tried this without really knowing what to do and it was cool but no where near as fun as when I picked it up a couple days ago, and the project I have been working on just keeps getting bigger and bigger I think I’m done then the next day I’ll have another idea. Which just leads me to challenging myself and makes it even more fun! The speech was pretty awesome too in a way it made me start thinking of it and makes me want to check into it more I tried to find the book but I can’t seem to locate it, I may just buy it online and read it through. Sadly though this is kind of put off by Scratch, I doubt I’ll be putting that down anytime soon..

I loved every minute of making the page it was so much fun seeing what all I could customize just with a few lines and overall I am happy with how it came out. My view of how everything works otherwise has not really changed I always assumed it was harder then it looked and now I’ve come to the conclusion it was easier then I thought it could of ever have been and I could easily do this for a living I was having fun the whole time. On databases however I was kind of distant this week had some stuff going on at home so I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have and to be honest I wasn’t that interested to begin with so I know what I will be cramming on before the test…

This post is two weeks late but I figured I might as well post it. For the most part I kind of enjoyed messing with the ALS though I could do everything it did in my mind it did make understanding how it works a little easier. As for the everything else it is definitely coming together just because I already had a really good idea I just never really got into the details until this class. Now though I’m glad it is over with and we are actually getting to the actual work part of it, and no I don’t think I’ve been excited about work before in my life, but the theoretical lessons had the same feel as just any class even though it was something I wanted to  know.

Just another random note, I’ve never really been a blog or journal kind of person so I didn’t think I would like doing these but I’m kind of glad we have to it makes me think more about the class and things that I learned, though I wouldn’t want it in a class like math or something. I don’t know what I would write about math… but this is a cool idea Dr. Brown thanks for kind of pushing it on me.

Finally the good stuff! This is pretty much what I wanted to get from this class and it is just as fun to mess around with as I wished. Just spending last night messing around with the text and pulling it up on the browser was so cool to do I can’t wait until we get into the more complex stuff. I haven’t really started on the project yet but I will this weekend I think this is honestly the first time in my life I’ve been excited about a project. The network stuff is mostly things I already knew, I’ve had to set up every network for my family that has one, even one for my cousins company so none of it was a surprise but it is still nice to learn about something I actually care to know.

I chose these parts for performance, the best I could find of everything. I tried to make sure they worked together from comments but on most of this stuff no one posted so I can assume it worked or no one bought it. The Motherboard works with the CPU for sure and fits in the Case, the power supply comes with the case so I can only assume it should do fine. I am hooking up two monitors and almost bought two video cards until I found the one I posted here. If I did actually go to build this I think I would just buy a mini-fridge and put it inside there instead of a case because this thing would probably overheat in seconds which is why I chose a case with a bunch of fans. Obviously I was not worried about price if I was going to actually build this I wouldnt even get the case I want let alone all of this stuff but I wanted to build a monster and I think I can say mission accomplished.

When I go to install it I would definitely be putting on a static wrist band because I wouldn’t even dare risk it (there is almost $1,000 in just RAM lol) but I would pop the CPU and RAM in before putting it in the case just to make it easier. Then I would put the Mother Board inside the case, install the power supply, then hard drive and disk drive plugging both of them in as installed and making sure to screw in everything as I go. Place the Video card in, finish up plugging all the wires in. Close up the case plug my mouse and keyboard in, my monitors in, start it up and install the OS if everything goes well my $5,500 beast will be unstoppable.

As much as I’d like to say I am actually building this thing, I’m not if I did have it though I don’t think I would ever touch my xbox again, or see daylight for that matter…

Well I can say that I enjoy doing binary I thought it was going to be kind of complicated but as it turned out not only is it easy its fun. During class we talked about how maybe even our minds are just as simple as numbers and the more I think about it the more I could easily agree and to think that if it is true and we made computers think like we do that is extremely interesting. I always wondered how we told computers things in only 1s and 0s even though we use so many more characters and even the fact that pictures, videos, even sound is nothing but 1s and 0s to a computer is just mind blowing but at the same time oddly relaxing because all the theories like terminator or something along those lines how is it possible for them to rule the world or even take it over if a computer can’t do anything without our permission. I guess I could agree with its not computers that is bad but how the people use them. But with increasing tech we also increase how easily it is to get it, everyone has cell-phones these days and I could only assume years after something like nanotechnology was realised then it could be accessed by anyone else. Then to think of someone like Hitler who needed such a good opportunity to do what he did that window of opportunity only needs to be so big when it comes to something everyone can access maybe if we released something like this it would need some heavy regulation. I guess I could go on all day about this so I’ll end it here and see what happens next week seeing as we only had one class this week I was kind of disappointed to find out it was something I actually enjoyed.
