Building A Computer From Scratch

I have never had the opportunity to build my own computer. In the past I have had the chance to take a computer completely apart which I thought was interesting, but then I realized I didn’t want to put the parts back together again because it would be the same computer. Well now I can put together my dream computer and see how much it really adds up to be.

This is an excellent computer. I built this with mostly gaming in mind because that’s my favorite thing to do with computers. I picked a Cooler Master case which is very efficient when it comes to keeping all of the parts inside to a cool temperature. The power supply I chose is an Ultra LSP750 and has a 135mm cooling fan which reduces the heat and noise. The motherboard is an EVGA P55 and is compatible with Intel processors which is what I chose. The CPU is an Intel Core i7 870 which is perfect for playing games or just doing other things. I wanted a good amount of memory so the hard drive is a 2TB Western Digital (which I would probably never completely fill up). Even though I have a very good CPU I still wanted a decent amount of RAM so I chose the Corsair Dominator that is 4GB. I picked one of the best video cards on the market which is the ASUS GeForce GTX 560 Ti by Nividia. It is the second most expensive part next to the CPU. Even though a sound card isn’t mandatory I still decided I wanted better audio so I picked a cheap one by Creative Labs. For the disc drive I chose an LG Blu Ray ROM/DVDRW Combo which was at a pretty decent price. The monitor is an ASUS 22 inch Widescreen LCD which would be great for gaming and also watching movies. If you aren’t a big PC gamer then you really don’t need to buy an expensive mouse, but since I love playing games I chose the Steel Series Ikari Laser which is perfect for FPS games. Keyboards are also not very expensive unless you just want a really fancy looking one like the one I chose. It is a Logitech G110 Illuminated keyboard which has programmable keys and selectable blacklight colors. This computer is my dream computer but I probably wouldn’t be buying it anytime soon considering it adds up to be a whopping $1440. Even though it is expensive, the parts are very good quality and you wouldn’t have to replace them for years to come. Now in the future I will know what sites to use and I will have a better estimation of how much a really good gaming computer will cost.

Binary

Learning binary was very interesting to me. It was like learning a new type of language and understanding how it works. I had some trouble with it at first but after practicing on some problems I finally got the hang of it. Now I almost know it like the back of my hand. I took the binary quiz and got 100% so I feel pretty good about my studying. It’s amazing knowing that computers work just by using the numbers zero and one. It may sound nerdy or dumb but I really enjoy learning how computers communicate and process information. I hope to be able to help anyone that ever asks me or needs to know about binary code. I now feel that I have taken my first major step in the world of computer technology and I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next.

Introduction

Hello my name is Ethan Irwin. I have always enjoyed doing everything on computers including just typing, but I didn’t take serious interest until the summer of my junior year in high school. I started to actually wonder how everything inside a computer works and how each part needs other parts to function. I have always enjoyed playing video games so once I started playing games on my computer I started to learn about video cards and more powerful processors. My friends and family tend to come to me if they have any questions or if they need help with their computers. I love to help them out but then at the same time they can be annoying about it sometimes. Websites that I participate in are mainly Facebook, Youtube, and Steam which is the client I use for gaming. I don’t know a huge amount of knowledge about computers, but I am extremely happy that I am taking this class. Everything that we are doing sounds interesting and I can’t wait to learn as much as I can for the future.
