A great new entry at Pellissippi State blogs

I really don’t have a preference of what company I work for. I will work for whoever hires me thats the way it works in this day and time when jobs are sparse and few in between.  I would prefer to just have a job with a stable company and be able to provide for my family the way that I need too.

I really don’t have a preference of what size company I work for I just want a job doing something I like and that I am trained for, I been doing PC trouble shooting for years and did not have a degree for it so I was not paid for my knowledge. I believe as more and more companies take their business into the digital age that their will be an ever growing demand for people in the networking and programming fields. Or at least I like to think it will.

Final Blog for CSIT Class

Posted in CSIT1110 on December 13, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Wow, semester over and done with. I feel like I know more about computers and their history and where they are going into the future then I did when I started this semester. I have really enjoyed the class, It was always interesting and fun. Dr. Brown knows what needs to be done to keep the class entertaining. I really liked the week when we used Scratch just wish knowing now that I would have rather used Alice instead.

The coolest thing about the class is that the text book is comic book form and that made it a lot easier to follow for myself. They were times when I was thinking “Really”, but all is good now. I wish this class took 2 semesters it was that fun. This semesters class asked, almost begged Dr. Brown to teach some more classes that we had. Everyone coming in should like the class as much as anyone did this semester if they enjoy computers at all.

Maybe in the future Dr. Brown will require people to enjoy computers as much as we did. Not all the students were their because they enjoy computers but thought it was a easy grade or just because they thought they would learn something easy. If computers were easy everyone would know everything about them but that is where us nerds come in and save the day we have to know everything about them.

Dr. Brown Farewell I hope to see you around campus!

Classmates well catch you all later down the road. Keep on trucking guys!

To those coming in— Watch your self and pay attention you really learn a lot if you want too.

Wow Almost done!

Posted in CSIT1110 on December 6, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Well here it is a week till finals and were almost done. I’m starting to get sad about it though I will miss the guys in my class and look forward to seeing them all maybe in the future, some of them ah don’t really care what happens to em’.

So for this week we were to look at Greenfoot or Alice and can I say I didn’t look at Greenfoot but I enjoyed Alice my son thinks it’s a cool program as well and he wants me to let him use it he aspires to be a game designer when he grows up, but most of all just the ease of use it what draws me to Alice to be able to already have like actual moving people and not have to create them is awesome. I’m sorry to say Dr.Brown but you should do Alice instead of scratch period I could have enjoyed that a lot better then. I know you do it to lay the building blocks for the rest of the semester , but wow it’s kinda cool. Anyway not looking forward to not having Dr. Brown for a teacher next semester but it would probably be hard to keep up with another set of comics for another class I guess hey see you all in class.

Peace Out!!

Artificial Intelligence?

Posted in CSIT1110 on November 27, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Really with such a short week its hard to understand what real A.I. is, the thought of some of it is cool like, “The Perfect Woman” from the video we watched in class now that would be cool. ( Please DON’T tell my wife.) Everything we touch anymore has A.I. involved in it from the video games we play to the T.V. episodes we watch all the time. It was all right playing with the robots this week but really I don’t enjoy group stuff so much everyone wants to do something different and it kinda gets on my nerves unless I really get along with the person. Here it is though the end of the semester I have learned a lot and will miss some of the guys in the class( not all ) and really hope to keep in touch with some and maybe have classes with a few next semester. I wish Dr. Brown would teach another class of mine I feel with the way he teaches I learned more from him than any other class so far. Well I guess I’m done again until next week. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and see you all in class Tuesday…

Robots!

Posted in CSIT1110 on November 20, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

OK really robots are not my thing. I am enjoying working with them but am glad participation is the only thing we have to do for this lab. It would not be hard to do something with them its just not a part of the class I looked forward to. I like computers and the care racing thing was cool, but I really don’t want everything to be automatized I want to drive my car, I want to make my own meals, I want to be in control of everything I that happens in my life..

I am still enjoying the class but there are things that don’t excite me as much as others. I really enjoyed the trip to ORNL this week, and wish we could have stayed longer. I really would like to see inside the case and really get a feel for what they have inside of them. Sooner or later I will figure out how to link all my extra PC’s together to make my own super computer. Really make something cool and pretty quick would be awesome.

Week 9 Security!!

Posted in CSIT1110 on November 7, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

I just want to say I wish this week was longer, And would like to learn a lot more about hacking and security. Really looking forward to the field trip next week also. I have done some hacking before such as, Bypassing passwords to gain access to systems to reset passwords, making program run on operating systems they are not sup-post to run on, making games run without a disk being required, but i’m not going to let all my secrets out. I don’t believe theres anything that can’t be hacked if theres a way someone will figure it out. I haven’t pioneered any hacks or anything like that, but have tried a lot of the ones I have heard about. I know I don’t have any viruses on my comp I do a scan daily and have several other items in place to keep out hackers and malicious software. I believe no one would want my information but really with the state of the economy you can’t take any chances. It seems like anyone can be a target now… Well I hope I do better on the test this week then on the last test I have more than one to take this week and need to get good grades on all of them.

Signing Off…

Programming

Posted in CSIT1110 on October 27, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

All right first off I’m just going to say I find the scratch program a lot cooler than the ALS programmer. Not that it wasn’t cool to see the processes, but at least with this one we have some kind of visual to look at and make do actions that we control. I really have enjoyed this semester so far, and hope it continues to stay as interesting as it has been. One thing about this class is, I came to school this semester thinking I knew all I needed to know about computers for the career path I have chosen, but so far have figures out that I have a lot left to learn. I don’t know if I really need all the info but its great to learn new things every day. I wish Dr. Brown was going to be teaching some of my other classes, because I really like his teaching style. Looking forward to the talk about security.

Databases + HTML

Posted in CSIT1110 on October 16, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Ehh I like Html a lot better now that I kinda got the hang of it. Doesn’t seem to be hard at all I think I done alright on mine I just wanted it simple and finished I am going to practice it more and get into the habit of doing it again its been so long. I am hoping the next few weeks pick up and get a little more exciting, no offense intended.  There are just a few things I would rather see than HTML or databases. I guess I just didn’t know what to expect from this class in the beginning it is Introduction to Networking I just figured we would be doing a lot more networking then anything else. So far I the only networking I’ve done is social networking… Again no offense I’m just wondering what my classes are going to be like from here on out. I just want to get through school graduate and go to work don’t really care about much other than that.

Networking or HTML?

Posted in CSIT1110 on October 8, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Really I don’t know what to write about this week  the course says we are covering networking but we are doing some HTML. As far as networking goes I can set up networks I’ve done this before, as far as some of the more complicated networks ehhh I don’t know. My network at home includes a repeater really its 2 Netgear routers one setup as a base and the other as a receiver/repeater wireless of course. My repeater does send out a wireless signal but my computer is actually hardwired.(No wireless lag) This is an awesome setup for someone working on other peoples computers. If i’m writing about HTML well I’ve done this too just not on my own. With so many tools out there it is hard to really to even consider writing HTML in long form but when Dr. Brown explains it well it seems so much easier. I am really learning a lot in this class and looking forward to learning a whole lot more. I just wish all my other subjects were as fun to learn or as interesting as this class.

On the subject of HTML I really think its easy its just a matter of playing with it to get it to look the way you want I hope mine turns out as well when it’s done as it does in my head. How much more can I say, I just really like this stuff and look forward to learning all I can!

The simulator Week 4

Posted in CSIT1110 on September 26, 2010 by Joshua Brooks

Well the simulator was not as bad as I thought.  I figured that it was something completely different.  I guess I didn’t know what to expect but lets just say not as intimidating as Dr. Brown let on it was.  It might have been harder if we had to write our own programs but lets just be glad that didn’t happen.  I am still enjoying the class but we have some exams coming up and I don’t know what to think about whats going to be on them, we have covered alot of information in the 4 weeks of school but really I don’t think it will be as hard as I’m making it out to be lets just hope there isn’t alot of simulator stuff on it.

I guess until next time this is it but for lack of a better word I’ll say peace!!
