The activity that I enjoyed and learned from the most was the Lego robotics lab. I remember playing with and building things with Legos when I was younger, but this was my first time to build an actual robot. While extremely fun, I had no clue what to do when it came to programming it. Luckily for me, it was a group project and we were able to work on it together. And even though we couldn’t get our robot to work the way we wanted, I feel like it was overall success. I gained the most from this lab.
While I enjoyed the video and time spent on the security aspect, I feel like we needed to spend more time on it. I feel like we should have had a lab to where we could have spent doing some of the things in a controlled and safe environment. I was looking forward to this topic the most, early on in the semester. However, it was still one of my favorite topics covered.
I also feel that the animation topic should have been given more time. I feel like there wasn’t enough time to complete the assignment. However, this was a fun project and I learned a lot in the programming aspect of it. There should have also been more time allotted to going over what exactly the animations could be used for.
The two most helpful learning mechanisms for me were hands on lab and videos. It helps me to get my hands dirty, so to speak, and do it myself when I’m learning something new for the first time. This was especially helpful in the robotics lab and the animations lab. Videos were also helpful. Seeing and watching a video about someone who has had a career in the topic or pioneered something related to in the current field being covered is helpful. It is helpful to be able to attach a face to a name or a project.
