Binary Blog

Binary, the language of the computers, has always been an interest of mine. Binary is composed of 1′s and 0′s. These two numbers are how the computers communicate and process information. For example, 101101 is 45 and 1010110 is translated to 86.  People make a joke of the binary language by saying there are 10 kinds of people in binary, those who get it and those who don’t. This is a joke because 10 in binary is 2 but, people recognise 10 as ten first rather than binary. I have always seen binary around me with my interest in computers I am glad to have been able to learn it in this class. This has been an enjoyable learning experience.

Final Blog

Looking back on this class, I have seen many things that both I knew and I did not know. It has been an interesting class with both highs and lows. Though looking through all the past endeavors of our class, I can see that my hope for technology is burning bright and fully justified. The class is rich with history of technology and insight that is extremely helpful to people so they can see how far it has truely come. The class is one that I recommend looking into more and seeing, with open minded eyes, the wonders and opportunities that technology brings.

The hope I have for technology is still burning bright through this class. I am truely hoping that we are able to bring in a future where everyone is living a better life through the technology that we bring in the present. Even though I know that we probably won’t be living like the Jetsons, I have seen many things that prove that we are blazing forward with technology at speeds unthinkable when computers were first thought of. Everything from mechanized suits to A.I. like we see in science fiction are already starting to become big in today’s times! We are continously in amazement of the accomplishments that are comming through for medical purposes like new scans to catch cancer and other diseases faster and even the technology for warfare to help save lives such as the lazer crowd desperser that stops riots without getting anyone hurt.

The class also has a rich sence of the history of technology. Everything from beginning with Charles Babbage and John von Neumann, who are known for expanding the idea towards what we know as computers today, to even what there is to come in the future. Thomas Fuller, and English churchman and historian, once said, “Zeal without knowledge is fire without light.” Which is why we need to know of the technology’s past history and learn from it to advance ourselves into the future with opened but full minds.

With all the wonders and amazing things that technology has already brought us, I for one am really excited to see how the future of technology will shape up and take form in our lives. This said, I have enjoyed the class.

Robotics Blog

I have always been facinated by robots and they’re effect on humanity.  None more so than the most famous robots, the Transformers.  They were my role models for a long time and still is!  They are one reason why I am into the whole computer and technology scene.

Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, has many different stories under his belt.  He wasn’t always the leader of the Autobots, “before the Great War broke out on Cybertron, the robot who would be Optimus Prime, before he received the Matrix of Leadership from Sentinel Prime, was a Transformer of note, displaying his skills in the Infraformers Sharpshooting Competition. When the war began, Prime quickly made a name for himself as a combat leader of the Autobots.” (Wiki)  The war has made Optimus into a charismatic and honorable soldier in the “Great War.” Optimus is also aided against his enemies by his fellow Autobots; “Roller, Hi-Q, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Wheeljack, Prowl, Elita-1, Marissa Faireborn, Ultra Magnus, Rodimus, Barrelroller, Apex Bomber, and Ginrai” (Wiki) serve as the Autobots.

The Autobots are the good guys (mostly) of the Transformer series. As a generally heroic, honorable group, they tend to be dedicated to peace, and feel a need to protect other races from the Decepticons. As a result, they are usually Transformers who change into non-combat oriented alternate modes such as domestic vehicles, cars, trucks, or rescue vehicles. This is not always the case, however, as their ranks certainly contain ne’er-do-wells, malcontents, and unsavory types, and the necessities of war have led many to adopt more combat-oriented alternate forms. While the Autobots have usually found themselves outnumbered by the Decepticons, the Autobots have always had home-field advantage, having not only the humans’ military support, but also having more places on Earth to fall back on, while the Decepticons are entirely unwelcome on Earth.

Against them are the Decepticons, led by and Cybertronian by the name of Megatron. Instead of their counterparts the Autobots, the Decepticons are ruled just by who ever is the strongest and are considered the evil side.  They stop at nothing to get what they want but they still wish to protect their homeland.  The Decepticons emerged from the gladiatorial State Games, which caused Megatron‘s rise to public prominence – in the aftermath of the destructive Vos-Tarn War, Megatron was able to use his fame and charisma to unite both the survivors and the planet’s malcontents into a new army. His plan was to turn Cybertron into a mobile cosmic dreadnought and conquer the galaxy. The Decepticons developed new technology to allow them to transform into attack vehicles and weaponry, launching a devastating attack that killed billions and shook the planet from its orbit before Optimus Prime turned the tide.

Megatron, Shockwave and others were lost on Earth for four million years; as Optimus was too, the Autobots swiftly lost ground to Decepticon leaders Trannis and Straxus. Cybertron was devastated and conquered, causing the cream of the Decepticons to leave the burnt-out planet to form a Cybertronian Empire out in the stars, while Straxus threw all those he considered weak into the Smelting pool. The Empire would go on to slaughter and Cyberform planet after planet, their actions unknown on Cybertron.

Webpage part 1

This week I’ve been trying to learn about coding html to make a webpage.  It is a little confusing at first but as you continue doing it you learn a lot and become fluent in the process.  This is really helping me see and learn the commands that I will need for a job in this path.  I hope to be able to make a nice looking webpage soon and maybe even in the future! So far through this class there have been easy and hard things to learn but I’m trying to be persistent and learn as much as I can! This week really opened my brain to all knew thoughts on technology and how it has evolved and integrated into people’s lives. I am reasured that we can bring technology closer to helping people in the present as well as the future. While this week has been enlightening I am still down to earth with the limitations on my brain and are still trying to get the processes down to memorization and the knowledge learned. Here’s to the future of technology!

My Introduction.

Hello, My name is Robert Solomon, you may call me Robbie.  I have been facinated by computers for a long time.  My uncle was the one who got me into the technology world in the first place.  Scince then I have always wanted to grow up and work with computers, either by programming them or by adding new ideas for computers to advance themselves.  I am a big user of www.youtube.com, and I enjoy some online shows and comics people come up with and share through the internet.  Such as, www.roosterteeth.com, www.snafu-comics.com, and www.newgrounds.com occasionally. My “relationship” to computers and technology is that if it is a computer, I want to know how it runs and what it can do. If a new technology comes out like the new mechanical siut they built over in Japan to help home nurses lift people I love to look and learn about it. While I love computers and how they interact in our world, I’m still a guy who loves doing things myself and having fun with people. I like to think that the world will be helped by technology but we can’t just depend on it to do everything. The world still needs the human touch.
