Foursquare Review

Foursquare offers users a wide variety of options aside from just, “checking in.” After users have checked into places they have the option to write reviews, rate, and offer suggestions for their fellow foursquare peers. They also receive points and deals. Based on the number of times you check into an establishment in a 60-day period you can receive the title of “Mayor,” if you have checked in the most.

User Anick Jesdanun posted on the Huffington Post, that Foursquare is pointless. Aside from having no reason to use foursquare at all people are completely drawn to it including Anick. Whether it’s the thrill of competing with friends for points or for the title of Mayor, something keeps users coming back.

After the Foursquare app received a face-lift, CNET says it is cleaner, quicker, and easier to use. It has also expanded the information and interactivity with venues. The app is free to use in the app store. Other than the similarity to Yelp, the social networking took does not seem to have bad reviews.

Facebook Marketing

Most companies use some sort of social media to market their business. Simply Southern Photography is a photographer in Knoxville, TN, by Lori Anderson. Simply Southern uses Facebook to exploit examples of photography based on previous session. Facebook is also used for contests based on the number of “likes” a photo has. Winners usually receive discounted photos or sessions. Fox Racing is another company that uses Facebook for marketing by posting coupons and sales. They also have pictures of products and pictures from events they have sponsored or associated with. A few other businesses that use Facebook are Babies R Us, PacSun, and Aeropostale. They all use Facebook to post sales events, new inventory, coupons, sweepstakes, and more. Babies R Us also offers customers rewards if you use the check in feature through Facebook.

I have “liked” all of the businesses on Facebook. They have posted a lot of great deals that have attracted me as a customer.

Remember the Milk

Need an easy way to manage tasks? Remember the Milk is an easy, portable task management tool. It is free to use; however, you have the option to upgrade to a pro version, for $24.99 a year. The pro version allows you to have unlimited auto-syncing, keep in sync with your tasks on multiple devices, give push notification reminders, badge updates, and more. The free version allows you to add tasks, with the option of adding it to a specific list. Each task may be set with a due date, priority, tags, and location. You may sync once every 24 hours. Remember the Milk is available online or in the app store.

Remember the Milk is basic and easy to use. It is a great way to stay organized, without missing deadlines. I now use the app to keep up with class assignments. Writing in pocket calenders is a thing of the past. I recommend trying Remember the Milk for all of your task management needs.

Addiction or new way of life?

Social media has been around for years, but it seems as if it is growing faster than ever. We are now in a social media revolution. Whether we’re ready or not it’s here! Michael Moore tweeted an informative YouTube video on social media. It informs viewers of the reality of how large social media really is by comparing it to countries.

Girls just want to have fun!

The Chinese friendship bracelet is very simple to make. It is great for beginners and all ages. Most girls love making things and sharing them with friends. So instead of purchasing BFF keychains and jewelry why not let them make their own. Its cheap and fun! Sounds like a win-win to me. Here is a simple how to tutorial.

How to use Twitter effectively

I am new to the world of Twitter. I had no clue what Twitter even was until I came across a very informative article on Socialbakers, by Belinda Whittaker. There are four main steps to using Twitter effectively. Step one is to be social. Taking interest in your followers creates relationships and builds social media equity. Step two is to follow back. Twitter is all about following people with similar interests. When someone follows you, you should follow them back. Step three, find new people to follow. You can search key words to see who is using that word in their tweets. An easier way is to simply click, who to follow. This will allow Twitter to suggest followers based on who you follow. The last step would be to use hashtags. Hashtags allow you to send your message to a wider audience. You can learn more about hashtags at Hashtag.org. Another great resource for Twitter is Trendsmap. Trendsmap shows a real-time mapping of Twitter trends across the world.

Catchy commercials from Super Bowl 2012

Businesses often use videos to catch your attention, obviously because they want the cash in your pocket. It seems as if they save their best work for the Super Bowl commercials. Even though the Super Bowl is over you can always hop over to YouTube and watch those ads all you want. If I had to choose one as a favorite I would probably pick the Doritos commercial. Everyone has to love an old lady and a baby. However, the car commercials are pretty great too.

Businesses that use Social Media

Being a new mom I depend on peer input for all the great deals. Three companies I have found through Facebook have been very useful for spoiling my daughter without breaking my bank.

Carters

Carters company has a Facebook page that is one of my favorites. They are constantly posting sales events along with some great coupons. The page is not all business. They post cute baby pictures to keep the readers talking. They also ask questions about your loved ones for everyone to respond. Everyone knows mommys love talking about their babies!

Babies R Us

Babies R Us has a Facebook page and a Twitter account. The Facebook page has a lot of great information. You can find anything from sales events, new inventory, coupons, sweepstakes and so on. They also reward customers that use Facebook and check into one of their stores with great deals. So next time you visit a Toys R Us/Babies R Us remember to check in! =)

Etsy

Etsy has a Facebook page which is where I have found several things for my daughter and myself that I had never seen in stores before. Etsy is a lot of individuals who make and sell products through the website Etsy. There Facebook page posts different pictures of products from different sellers. Even if you are not looking to purchase anything the page has a ton of great ideas you can make yourself. Who knows you may have some crafty ideas you’ve been making for years that could bring you in some cash. If so what are you waiting for go sell them on Etsy!
