Hello!

My name is Ty Bennewitz and I am originally from Cleveland, TN.  I have been living in Knoxville for nearly six years and I could not be happier here.  I am currently living with my girlfriend, Ashley, in the Farragut area.

I have been interested in my computers and electronics since my parents brought home our shiny, new Packard Bell 386 sometime in the late 80s.  It ran Windows 3.1 and had the loudest dot matrix printer you have ever heard.  After that I was completely hooked and there was no turning back.  I was fortunate because the city high school in my home town has a very good IT program, and I was able to take a variety of courses that most could not until college.  I was hired for two fairly small web page design projects when I was a sophomore and obtained my A+ certification in 2003.

After high school I went straight to the University of Tennessee Knoxville thinking I would major in computer science and I would start my career in the IT field.  I declared my major before starting and signed up for the first prerequisite computer science course.  I went through the semester and did well, but something about it didn’t feel right.  I knew after that semester that programming was not where I wanted to be.

Long story short, I switched my major to Enterprise Management with a focus in Information Management and graduated with my bachelors degree in 2008.  In retrospect, this was not the best time to graduate, given that there seems to be a black pit where the job market used to be.  After trying to find a job and getting absolutely nowhere, I thought it might be time to get back in school.  Thus, I am writing this blog and am a proud current attendee of PSTCC.

I just wanted to note that I am very excited about this semester.  I am here to make myself look more attractive in the job market, and I know that by getting critical hands on experience in my time at Pellissippi is the best way to do that.

Dr. Brown asked the first class period if anyone was scared and it generated a couple, albeit nervous, laughs.  I’ve been through enough college courses to know by now that I don’t see references to 2001: A Space Odyssey, Michio Kaku, a novel by Philip K Dick, and the meme-worthy Ted Stevens ranting about series of tubes on every course outline.

So no, I am the direct opposite of scared.

Looking forward to a great semester!
