Virtual Reality

Posted in CSIT1110 on December 6, 2010 by Travis Veal

Ok this blog is about virtual reality. I started playing with virtual reality in the game War of Warcraft about 2 years ago. I started with a night elf warrior that I named Hackedman that I had in the Greymane realm. Unfortunately I can’t give you a picture because it has been some time since I have played, so battle.net won’t show me a picture of him again. However I can tell you about my experients playing the game.

When I started my friends at my work got me into it. I got  to level 27 on the night elf, but don’t get me wrong I have other players as well. I tried to get a feel of how every character moved and operated. I did like it…it was fun. I got to go into some low level instances and dungeons. I played in parties or group, and was able to meet some interesting people. I did like how they had festivals and events held to the masses, The way that you can customize your players, and pretty much do whatever you want to other players and the game…except what the game won’t let you do. Also, I did see some players that look very much the same. So I guess you cant have all the people different. haha. One thing I didn’t like is the time and effort you had to put into it. I was…and is…like a totally different life that you have to maintain or keep going if you want to ever accomplish anything. You can get a mount to make you move faster or teleport from one town to the next, but still the land is vast and there are many different ways you can level up. In all it was an awesome game. My friend still plays it and they have done some pretty cool improvements since I have stopped playing. The graphics are better and they have improved on game playing.

Robotics

This week experience was interesting. We learn about robotics and played with Lego Mind Storm, a toy robot that you can program to do operations. We also watched so video on youtube. The videos were very interesting. I have always liked robotics and the videos on androids are pretty cool. They didn’t, in my viewing, appear to look real though. Maybe human like, but still lacking in the life department. What I mean by that is the part of being human that makes us look like the skin is real, your breathing, your experiencing the world around you. Back to the Lego Bots, they were cool. My partner who I teamed up with the second day of class was able to control the bot with his cell phone. Apparently the Android phone has a app. that you can download and with the bluetooth turn on  the Lego bot…you can control its movements. I was just amazed. We wanted to build the shooter bot but could not find the blueprints on how to do it. Hopefully next week when we do this for a grade maybe I can find out how to make it and make the bot shoot off these little color balls.

Post #2…experience of learning, using binary, etc…

Posted in CSIT1110 on September 14, 2010 by Travis Veal

Okay I am still not use to the whole bloging thing. This is my second blog that I have ever done. I guess I did well on the first one…teach never wrote anything bad on it. I’m still not use to all the setting. But anyway on the week…so the second week was short….really short. We did have class on Monday because of Labor Day. So the teach put everything into one day. Which I guess was not that bad except if just felt like it was too much for one day. Honestly it took until the weekend to finally understand how binary is used and written. I mean I can understand it now, but on the quiz I messed two questions because I did understand what it was asking for.

And for everything like graphic, video, and audio I knew for the most part. I did how ever didn’t  know about the 1080p and 1080i on the video part, and I thought that was interesting. Also about the fps on movies and videos. That was new to me. The only stuff about is what I studied for myself or have messed with on my computer. But all in all everything so far in the class as been interesting to me. So if the teach is trying to expand my brain and make me go out of the class with more then I came in…week 2 was a success on hes part.

Okay so in fact this is my very first blog that I have ever done, but I think I should introduce myself first. My name is Travis D. Veal. The “D” in the middle is Darwin. It was my grandfathers first name and has no relation to Charles Darwin. I am currently 20 years of age. This will be my third year in college and at Pellissippi. I an majoring in Computer Networking under the Computer Science and Information Technology of the Pellissippi choices of major or career paths. My original major was in Business Management and was going to take over my fathers business that he owned, but that plan didn’t work out. So I took last semester off and decide on Computer Networking. I have always liked computers. I break my own computer down all the time and mess with how it runs and proforms. Its funny out of four people in my house I am the most technology incline person in this family. When something goes wrong they ask me. So I thought to myself that I must have a nack for dealing with computers and technology….So other than that I hope to expand my mind and learn lots more about computers and what they can do, because what I know now is still very small compared to what I can learn.
