Final Week: The last Blog

This class has been interesting i have learned much of the history of computers and machines.  The material was presented in such a way that i wanted to learn it not boring and non engaging like some of my classes.  My favorite section was on the security issues there are many problems that arise from the freedom of information transfer and there are a lot of jerks out there who get a kick from destroying other people’s information and systems.  The best protection is of course limiting access to your computer.

Another great thing about this class is the flexibility of our schedule get it done before the week’s end its awesome.  Because of this flexibility i was  able to spend quite some time on my scratch project which doesn’t look too good( I’m not an artist) but it plays pretty well.  The exposure to new devices and technology has opened my eyes to how close we are getting to complete hopelessness once the military gets powerful enough the government will have absolute control will we still have a voice?  I think not power corrupts and the more power the worse the corruption.

Overall this class has been enjoyable it has opened my mind to new ideas and shattered others.  This is a good class for anyone who is interested in knowing more about our world and where it is heading i will recommend it to anyone who asks, thank you Dr. Brown.

Week 13: Virtual reality

I don’t play as many games as i used to about two years ago.  When i did play more i was in front of a screen for about 30 to 50+ hours a week.  I’m glad i got away from it though i still occasionally game about 2-5 hours a week.  I do not believe i could go back unless it was my job and i could justify doing so.  They are addictive i remember having to set alarms to keep me from playing too long and being late for work or staying up too late.  The best thing about games is the fact that they are interactive stories you don’t just hear or see the story you get to be part of it.

Week 12: Artificial Intelligence

I see artificial intelligence all around me on television and at school  people who can regurgitate facts but are unable to think for themselves without any true original thoughts.  But im afraid this is the goal of the public school system is to create a herd of humans who will believe whatever they are told and be able to spit out the facts they were given.  I believe that this will be the model for the first AI an intelligence that can take the information it is given and regurgitate it not be able to think of new concepts there will be no imagination as with the masses of people whom surround me only restructured ideas that were already given to it.  But that is just my opinion.

Week 11: Robotics

Working with the robots has been a little frustrating trying to build a practical machine just to have someone else destroy it and turn it into something useless.  Its hard to program for a robot when you aren’t sure what it will look like or what sensors it will contain. Its been interesting especially the digesting duck in the comic hopefully my team can figure out how to compensate for the chaos and make something happen.

Week 9: Security

If it has software it can be hacked that is the lesson we have learned this week.  Make sure that your passwords are never words and fairly random so that it cannot be guessed.  Never give people you are not 100% sure about information over the phone.  Their is no sure way to keep your computer safe but the best defense is to control physical access to your computer.  Another  good tip is to never open spam mail or E-mails from places you do not know.  This week’s lesson has made me even more wary and cautions than normal but that is a good thing.

Week 8: Programming

This week i was introduced to the scratch program it i s fairly simple to use but its hard to make the things work together. Hopefully it will click soon so that i can create something cool.  The video we watched in class of Randy Pausch was very interesting and funny. His goals and accomplishments were pretty interesting especially wanting to be captain Kirk.  The fact that he accomplished all of his childhood goals shows a rare dedication to his dreams if more people held to their dreams and toughed out the rough parts of life instead of compromising there is no telling what could be accomplished.  The end :)

Week 7: Html, Sql, & databases

This week i have learned enough about HTML to be able to write and manipulate basic web pages.  I still have to look at references to see how things are done but its better than nothing. Sql seems pretty basic just type in your commands (making sure you are case sensitive) and it shows you what you ask for.  The uses of a database are clear and very useful but how far should it go?  If the government is allowed to collect every bit of information about you and you are not 100 percent for them what’s to stop them from making your life miserable.  Its just scary how easily our rights are being stripped from us before long liberty will be just a fond memory (for those who have experienced and love it) or just a lack of organization to those whom agree with supreme government sovereignty.

Week 6 Networking

Al Gore did not create the internet, thank goodness..  I have learned that HTML is not a programming language but a markup language.  It just determines the look and design of web pages.  I haven’t built my page yet but im starting to understand it a little, very little.  Hopefully i will understand it more completely after this weekend.  The concept of airborne electricity proposed by and experimented with by Tesla is intriguing hopefully one day his vision will be realized it will be one less bill i have to pay.

Week Four: Software

This week we discussed the various uses of computer software.  Software takes advantage of the hardware available.  It doesn’t matter what the hardware was intended for it can be used in many different way’s such as the skin printer we saw in class.  The basics of the Von Newman model are burned into my brain just trying to memorize the cpu components.

Week Three: Hardware

Cpu Intel Core i7 2 These are my parts i chose each because they are the best.  The three MSI Twin factor video cards would be linked using nvidia’s three way system running all info passed through them at about 4Gh/s handling a workload of about 4.5Gb . It is a 64 bit system with a solid state hard drive for the more taxing operations such as gaming.  The large case is great for the equipment i’m installing leaving plenty of room for air flow, and with the four adjustable fans it should be plenty.  At normal running it will be about 3.5Gh/s though it can be configured up to about 5.5Gh/s constant 7Gh/s turbo before  I would need to upgrade the cooling system.  Awesome computer but a bit out of my price range at $7764 before anything else such as keyboard mouse and software.  I would rather have the Jaguar but since that costs much more i’ll have to settle for a standard desktop.

Assembly

Insert processor into motherboard, install heatsink and fan , insert motherboard into case, insert ram and videocards, connect powersupply, insert blue ray drives, and configure fans
